About Us
Mipham Shedra is a non-profit (501C3) educational institute dedicated to providing Dharma education to sincere Dharma students of all lineages and traditions.
Mipham Shedra is divided into three schools:
Lhopdra, which literally means "school," focuses on translating Tibetan texts. Students study reading, writing and translating texts from Tibetan into English. The goal is to translate ancient texts which are in Tibetan,
in order to make them available to the western world, and in the process the students learn Tibetan. The school has currently translated a few texts by Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche,
and we are in the process of translating other texts as well. The translation
training is one year and many of the students are able to orally translate at
that time. The year courses are divided over four semesters.
Shedra, which can be translated into "college," focuses on Philosophy. Students study philosophical works by Mipham, along with other Tibetan teachings by the three schools of Sakya, Kagyu, Gelug. The Shedra studies different schools and texts for a comprehensive point of view. In Shedra, the focus is on less practice and more
on study. We hope to offer a class on Tibetan Medicine in the future.
Drupdra is our meditation group in which we sit, practice, and study together. Our teachings come from various books such as Treasures of Rongsompa, Longchenpa
and Jigmed Lingpa, along with The Words of My Perfect Teacher by Patrul Rinpoche.
We also offer a Ngondro practice, Tsa-lung, and Dzogchen, Trekcho and Thogal,
under the guidance of Lhoppon Rechung. Please note that Ngondro practice is
a required preliminary before any of the other four teachings.
New students are always welcome, for more information on how to apply
